SAAVI is a Michigan based 501 (c) (3)
non-profit, non-partisan community organization.
We focus on assistance and community programs
for the underserved communities in Michigan.
In early April, 2020 the Corona pandemic was
engulfing the United States of America and
Michigan was amongst the states seriously
impacted. As a response to the Covid-19
pandemic, SAAVI along with the Miindia
Foundation has taken the following measures to
support Michiganders directly and through
partnerships with other community service
organizations.

1) We activated the “Meals
for Healthcare Heroes”.
This was a collaborative program to serve meals
to our Frontline Workers at various healthcare
facilities. As of the first week of June more
than 3250 appreciation meals were served to 18
healthcare systems. This was achieved through
many individual contributions, volunteers from
the MICS group and the overwhelming support of
social, cultural and religious organizations
from the Indian American Community of Michigan
as well as other well-wishers.
2) We also started serving Community Care
Packages to underserved communities especially
vulnerable seniors. Each CCP consists of packed
and canned food products and personal care
equipment like hand-made masks from DIWA and
Balgokulam volunteers, sanitizer bottles and
gloves. We have served 1050 packages as of the
first week of June. These packages are put
together by volunteers from SAAVI, DIWA,
Balagokulam, miindia.com and Amma’s Center from
various locations in Michigan.
Seniors from cities served are Detroit, Flint,
Grand Rapids, Wayne, Canton and Sterling
Heights. Several organizations and individuals
that have supported us in the delivery of the
package are volunteers from IGGF, Balagokulam
and SAAVI.Packages were delivered to
organizations and groups such as
1) New Home Church, Wayne
2) Qualifying Clarketon Elementary families,
Detroit Public Schools
3) Tricity Community Development
4) Sterling Heights Senior Services
5) Grand Rapids Senior Services
6) Flint underserved communities

The program has been made possible due to the
generous donations of individuals and financial
support of organizations such as
1) The International Geeta Gurukul Foundation (IGGF)
2) India League of America, Michigan
3) Miindia Foundation
4) Asian Indian Women’s Association
5) VHP of America
